If I’m Barefoot Down Darkened Roads
2025, Acrylic Painting on Canvas

This painting was created to depict a moment as if it was captured from a larger narrative. Imagine a weary traveller struggling to make it through and safely down a darkened and winding road. Although the shoes take center stage in this painting it implies an unprotected and weary ache of someone's sole. The image is set before a background of deep darkness where no clarity is offered to you as the viewer. This further evokes the feeling of Isolation. As you look at the painting you will find that the only light source is directly coming from the shoes. The light pouring from the souls of the shoes offer a light and glimmer to bring clarity amidst darkness.
In scripture, peace is depicted as shoes to put on (Ephesians 6:15). This message of Peace is something to be put on, taken for a spin, and lived in as you walk around. In this depiction I imagine it keeping the heels and soles of my feet tender and soft on an otherwise hardened and rough road. In my imagination it also gives light to the most unclear and darkened road. Knowing that there is a message that keeps me tender and yet empowers me to walk forward through life offers a peace that is luminous and has become a perfect light for my life.
